Suomi toisena kielenä (S2) – Suomen kieli ja kulttuuri

Linjalla voivat opiskella yli 16-vuotiaat maahanmuuttajat ja ulkomaalaiset sekä kaikki, joiden äidinkieli ei ole suomi.

Finnish  as a Second language (S2)

The program is open to immigrants and foreigners over the age of 16, and everybody whose native language is not Finnish.

Notice: Because studying at Joutsenon Opisto does not lead to a degree, you cannot get a student visa or residence permit for studying at Joutsenon Opisto. Students from outside the EU are not accepted to the education (except students who already are clients of the reception centre as asylum seekers).

Suomi toisena kielenä (S2)  – Suomen kieli ja kulttuuri 

Suomi toisena kielenä -opiskelu on kokonaisvaltaista suomen kielen ja kulttuurin, yhteiskuntataidon ja opiskelutaitojen opetusta. Tavoitteena on, että oppija saa sellaiset kielelliset, yhteiskunnalliset, kulttuuriset ja elämänhallintaan liittyvät valmiudet, jotka tukevat jatkuvaa kielenoppimista, selviytymistä jokapäiväisen elämän tilanteissa, hakeutumista työelämään ja jatko-opintoihin sekä työssä ja opinnoissa toimimista suomen kielellä

Koulutuksessa noudatetaan soveltuvin osin kotoutumiskoulutuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteita kurssin kestoon sovitettuna. Lukuvuoden mittaisen koulutuksen laajuus on 45 op (35 viikkoa). Opetusta on noin 25 tuntia viikossa. Koulutuksessa opiskellaan arkipäivinä klo 9.00-14.00. Omaehtoisesti opiskelevat voivat opiskella myös suppeamman tuntimäärän ja osallistua esimerkiksi vain kieliopintoihin.

Opiskelun voi aloittaa omalta kielitaidon tasolta (opintoryhmien aloitustaso: alle A1- ja A1.3-, oppimistavoite B1.2). Lukuvuoden alussa opiskelijat jaetaan taitotason mukaisiin ryhmiin.

Finnish as a Second Language (S2)

Studying Finnish as a second language provides comprehensive instruction in the Finnish language and culture, civic skills, and study skills. The goal is for learners to acquire the linguistic, societal, cultural, and life‑management competencies that support continuous language learning, coping in everyday situations, entering working life and further studies, and functioning in work and study environments in Finnish.

The training follows, where applicable, the core curriculum for integration training, adjusted to the length of the course. The full‑year program corresponds to 45 credits (35 weeks). Instruction amounts to approximately 25 hours per week. Studies take place on weekdays from 9:00 to 14:00. Students studying independently may complete a smaller number of hours and participate, for example, only in language studies.

Students may begin their studies at their own starting level of language proficiency ( starting level of the groups: below A1- and A1.3-, learning goal B1.2) At the beginning of the academic year, students are placed into groups according to their proficiency level.

KOULUTUKSET

Lukuvuosi 2026-2027

Koulutus alkaa 24.8.2026 ja päättyy 19.5.2027.

Opiskelun voi aloittaa oman kielitaidon mukaiselta tasolta (opintoryhmien aloitustaso: alle A1- ja A1.3-, oppimistavoite B1.2). Koulutukseen muodostetaan kielitaitotason mukaiset ryhmät (alkeisryhmä, jatkoryhmät). Kielitaidon taso selvitetään haastattelussa, joka järjestetään ennen koulutuksen alkua.

Lukuvuoden aikana linjalla opiskellaan suomen kieltä ja viestintätaitoja sekä työelämä- ja yhteiskuntataitoa. Opiskeluun sisältyy tieto- ja viestintätekniikkaa, suomalaisen kulttuurin tuntemusta, ympäristötietoutta, opintokäyntejä ja opintojen ohjausta. Kielitaidon kehittyessä opiskelijalla on mahdollisuus suorittaa harjoittelujakso työharjoittelupaikassa, vapaaehtoistyössä, opintopiirissä tai järjestötoiminnassa.

Linjalla opiskellaan arkipäivinä klo 9.00-14.00. Opintojen alussa kaikki opetustunnit ovat lähiopetusta opistolla.  Oppituntien ulkopuolella tapahtuvaa itsenäistä kielenopiskelua on n. 10 tuntia viikossa.

Koulutus on maksullista. Jos opiskelijalla on voimassa oleva kotoutumissuunnitelma tai työllistymissuunnitelma tai jos opiskelija on turvapaikan hakija, koulutuksen hinta on 75 € / kuukausi (pelkkä opetus) tai 120 € / kuukausi (opetus ja lounas). Syksyllä 2025 alkaneet koulutukset päättyvät 20.5.2026
Koulutuksiin voidaan vielä kevään aikana ottaa uusia opiskelijoita, jos opiskelupaikkoja vapautuu. Opiskelija hyväksytään koulutukseen, jos kielitaitotaso on riittävä:
Aleisryhmä: kielitaitotaso A1.1
Alkeisjatkoryhmä: kielitaitotaso vähintään A1.3
Edistyneiden jatkoryhmä: kielitaitotaso vähintään A2

TRAININGS

Academic Year 2026-2027

The training starts on 24 August 2026 and ends on 19 May 2027.

Students may begin their studies at a level that matches their language skills ( starting level of the groups: below A1- and A1.3-, learning goal B1.2). The training is divided into groups based on language proficiency (beginner group, intermediate group, advanced intermediate group). Language skills will be assessed in an interview held before the training begins.

During the academic year, students will study Finnish language and communication skills, as well as working life and civic skills. The studies include information and communication technology, knowledge of Finnish culture, environmental awareness, study visits, and study counselling. As language skills improve, students may complete a practical training period in a workplace, in volunteer work, in a study circle, or in association activities.

Classes take place on weekdays from 9:00 to 14:00. At the beginning of the studies, all lessons are taught on campus. In addition to lessons, students are expected to complete approximately 10 hours of independent language study per week.

The training is subject to a fee. If a student has a valid integration plan or employment plan, or if the student is an asylum seeker, the fee is €75 per month (tuition only) or €120 per month (tuition and lunch). If the student lives in the school dormitory, the fee is €220 per month (tuition and full-board accommodation). More information about prices can be found at the bottom of this page.

The registration period for the training is 1 March–7 August 2026.

Academic Year 2025-2026

The training programs that began in autumn 2025 will end on 20 May 2026.
New students may still be admitted during the spring if study places become available. A student will be accepted into a training group if their language level is sufficient:

Beginner group: language proficiency level A1.1
Elementary continuation group: language proficiency level at least A1.3
Advanced continuation group: language proficiency level at least A2

Saat maksusta laskun kerran kuukaudessa. Maksun voi maksaa viitesiirtona pankin kautta tai käteismaksuna opiston toimistossa.

Tuet

Opiskelija, joka ei ole Suomen kansalainen ja on tullut Suomeen opiskelemaan, ei voi yleensä saada opintotukea Suomesta. Opintotukea voi kuitenkin saada tiettyjen ehtojen täyttyessä. Katso lisätietoa ulkomaalaisten opintotuesta Kelan sivuilta (suomeksi, in english).

Luvat

Koska Joutsenon Opiston opinnot ovat tutkintoon johtamatonta koulutusta, ulkomailta tuleva opiskelija ei voi saada opiskelijaviisumia tai oleskelulupaa Suomeen näiden opintojen perusteella.

Koulutukseen ei hyväksytä opiskelijoita EU:n ulkopuolelta (poikkeuksena Suomessa jo turvapaikanhakijoina olevat opiskelijat).

PRICE 1: includes lessons
Instalment 75 € / month (9 instalments during the academic year = 675 € / academic year)

PRICE 2: includes lessons and lunch on teaching days
Instalment 120 € / month (9 instalments during the academic year = 1080 € / academic year)

PRICE 3: includes lessons and accommodation with full board in a single room or a shared twin room.
Instalment 220 € / month (9 instalments during the academic year = 1980 € / academic year)

Other students who do not belong to the previous groups

PRICE 1: includes lessons, lunch and afternoon coffee on teaching days
Instalment 215 € (9 instalments during the academic year = 1935 € / school year)

PRICE 2: includes lessons and accommodation with full board board in a single room or a shared twin room.
Instalment 345 € (9 instalments during the academic year = 3105 € / academic year)

The fee is invoiced once a month. The due date for the first payment is in September. The fee can be paid as a reference transfer through a bank or as a cash payment at the institute's office.

Financial aid

A student who is not a Finnish citizen is not eligible for financial aid from Finnish government. However, financial aid can be granted in some cases, if certain terms are met. Permits

Because the studies at Joutseno College are non-degree education, students coming from abroad cannot get a student visa or residence permit to Finland on the basis of these studies. Students from outside the EU are not accepted to the education (except students who already are clients of the reception centre as asylum seekers).
