Joutseno Art Summer International Film Festival is a new event held for the first time in summer 2023 in Lappeenranta, Finland. Although the festival focuses on the role of sustainable development and on the beauty of responsible art and filmmaking, it welcomes submissions on other themes as well.
To highlight the importance of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Joutseno College is holding this international film festival offering the pleasant atmosphere and the great natural scenery of Lake Saimaa in Lappeenranta, approximately 2 hours train trip from Helsinki, the capital city of Finland.
Our main goal with Joutseno Art Summer International Film Festival is to help maximise the engagement of select independent filmmakers who choose to challenge and reflect on global scale problems. The festival offers filmmakers a unique opportunity to screen their works in one of the most scenic venues and locations in Finland!
The festival is open to everyone and we warmly welcome people to see and enjoy versatile films as well as encounter one another and broaden perspective to the world. The festivals also takes note to children and families offering a dedicated event for them.
Joutseno Art Summer Film Festival takes place in Lappeenranta, the central city of South Karelia province in Finland.
The main venue of the film festival is Culturspace Nuijamies, located in the centre of Lappeenranta, which is one of the most significant operators in Lappeenranta's cultural scene. All the screenings and recreational events are held in Nuijamies.
The pre-festival event, scriptwriting workshop, will be held at Joutseno College, about 20 minutes by car and 10 minutes by train from the center of Lappeenranta.
