Finnish language for foreigners – Finnish as a second language (S2)
The target audience for this course are immigrants over age sixteen, foreigners and Finns who are not native speakers of Finnish and would like to improve their Finnish language skills.
The aim of the course is to improve the skills in Finnish language and increase knowledge of Finnish society and culture. The course will aid in the acculturing of the immigrants into Finnish society and prepares them for further studies and eventual employment in Finland. The target level of language skill after the course is A2.2 and starting level is basics/A1.
On the course the students will learn about everyday life in Finland. In addition to Finnish language the students will study civics, Finnish history and culture as well as communications technology. The studies also include work practice.
During the year, students will receive eight bills, approximately once a month. The bills are 296 euros each. The price includes lunch and afternoon coffee, teaching and handouts.
Teaching without meals will cost 256 euros/bill.
If necessary, it is possible to live at the school. In this case, the teaching will cost 8 x 504 euros in a shared twin room or 8 x 595 euros in a single room. These prices include rent, meals (breakfast, lunch, afternoon coffee and dinner), teaching and handouts.
If this course has been accepted as integration training for immigrants in student’s integration plan, the teaching, lunch and afternoon coffee will be free of charge.
Students may also apply for financial support to reduce their tuition fees.
You may receive the support if
– you are not entitled to integration training for immigrants
– you have lived in Finland for more than three years
– you are unemployed
